Let’s get personal…

Hello – I’m Kathy. I love people, connection and deep conversation; and I’m deeply introvert, highly sensitive, and an empath. It’s a dance for me to balance my need for lots of quiet and solitude with my love of interaction. I’m learning so much about myself and my needs through exploring, and embracing, my introvert nature. I now feel it’s my superpower – being introvert gives me such beautiful powers of listening, observation, compassion, and empathy, intuition and stillness.

I have a gorgeous 22-year-old daughter who’s creating her own amazing life, and a 10-year-old black Labrador ‘puppy’ who brings laughter and love into every day. I live in Cockermouth, a delightful and friendly little town in West Cumbria which has the wildest winds and craziest rains I’ve ever known. I love it here, and feel I’m a real part of the community.

Loves of my life

Books and reading, words and writing, are a mainstay of my life. I love the joy of discovering new music, and the spark of a live performance in a small, intimate venue. I’m a complete sucker for cracker jokes, although I forget a joke as soon as I’m told one. I love cheesy rom-coms, twinkly strands of fairy lights, and the flicker of burning candles. I love snow, and autumn, and a strong flat white.

I’m passionate about learning new stuff of all sorts, and I think I’m probably a training course junkie. I love being wrong, because then I can learn something new. I’ve become less and less interested in stuff (unless it’s books!), and more interested in experiences. I love a good declutter, and how my creativity is freed up when I release things.

I have the incredible privilege of calling two cultures my own – I grew up in America, but have lived in the UK just over half my life. I’m entering my second Saturn return this month, and am eager to see what the universe has in store for me.

Career paths and plot twists

I worked as a chemical engineer in the first part of my career, transitioning through scientific and technical publishing to a stay-at-home mum and then onto my current path of holistic therapist and teacher, which I’ve been on for close to 20 years. You know that feeling when you realise you’ve found the path you’re destined for? That’s what I feel now, more and more each day.

The shadow and the light

Personal growth is a cornerstone of my life. I’m not interested anymore in self-improvement or fixing myself: I want to allow myself to be more me. More authentic: letting fall away the layers of conditioning so the true me can surface. Embracing myself as I am: the shadow with the light. I’ve spent my whole life beating myself up for not being perfect, and I’m now trying the approach of Louise Hay’s quote: ‘Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.’

I’m hugely influenced by Brené Brown’s writing on shame, vulnerability and authenticity, and Byron Katie’s The Work. Another pivotal book for me right now is Matt Kahn’s Whatever Arises, Love That. The list goes on and on…

Congruence and joy

My life is becoming more spiritual in focus, and I’m the most content I’ve ever been. I find such peace and strength in my daily meditation practice; it’s helping me navigate turbulence in my life with an ease I’d never thought possible. It’s helping me allow my resistance toward what is, to soften into acceptance and resonance.

Bringing my meditation teaching and Reiki, and now sound therapy, into my work alongside Alexander Technique is allowing me to work more fully in the way that I live the rest of my life. Such congruence is deeply nourishing, and a beautiful gift to experience. And being able to help others with all that I’ve learned to help myself, is a true joy.

I love my work, and I love sharing it with you.

Kathy ❤️
