Alexander Technique

Alexander Technique can help you to naturally overcome:

  • back and neck pain
  • poor posture
  • muscle tension and stiffness
  • anxiety and stress-related conditions

It’s a powerful personal development tool, naturally increasing your self-awareness and mindfulness in everyday situations.

You will learn to release tension and rediscover balance of body and mind. You can:

  • move with grace and less effort
  • be alert and focused
  • be poised
  • be calm and confident
  • breathe and speak more easily

Alexander Technique teaches you to pause in order to choose a response, rather than reacting out of old habit. This subtle shift can transform your physical health and total well-being, as well as open up your life to experience more choice and freedom.

Our emotions have a huge effect on our physicality, with unexpressed and held emotions getting stuck in the body and over time, leading to pain and tension. As Alexander Technique helps you to release this unnecessary physical tension wherever it is held, this can often result in a welcome emotional release over time. As the long-held muscle tension starts to soften and unravel, the emotions held deep within that tension can start to release as well.

More than just the physical

I work with you in your entirety – you’re not just a physical body with pain and tension. Your emotions, your beliefs, your habits of thought all have a deep effect on how you move and how you feel in your body.

Learning Alexander Technique can help you bring a beautiful new balance back into your body, mind and life. It is truly a tool for life.

What happens in an Alexander Technique lesson?

❋  I am not currently taking new Alexander Technique clients.  ❋  However, I can incorporate principles of the Technique as would be beneficial into my other work with clients, with their knowledge and consent.  ❋

We begin with a chat, taking a brief medical history and learning why you’ve come for Alexander Technique lessons. I will give you a brief explanation of the Alexander Technique, and then we will move on to hands-on and movement work.

The movement we will use is simple everyday activities such as sitting, standing, walking and lying down (on a treatment couch). I will use gentle hands-on and verbal  instruction to bring your awareness to various parts of your body as you move. The hands-on are light and non-invasive; there is no massage or manipulation.

No clothing is removed for your lesson, other than your shoes.

The Alexander Technique is not a medical intervention. It does not aim to cure medical conditions.  Alexander Technique Teachers are not trained in medicine and do not offer medical diagnosis or treatment or therapy. Any improvements in medical conditions and general health and well-being associated with learning the Alexander Technique can be considered by-products of an improved use of the self and such beneficial outcomes, though frequently reported, are not guaranteed to occur.
